School community

Overview

As 'parents are the prime educators of their children' (Vatican 11) and school is an extension of family life, the parents are expected and encouraged to be involved in some community life of school.

This can be expressed in a variety of ways:

  • As a member of the School Advisory Council.
  • Through the Parents and Friends' Association.
  • Parent involvement in the classroom
  • Help with school maintenance and catering.
  • Attending working bees.
  • By participating in the school and fund raising events of the year.

School Advisory Council

Parents are represented on the St. Mary’s School Advisory Council, which meets termly at 7.30 pm in the staffroom.

The Board is an advisory body which provides a structure for discussion and policy making regarding education in the Parish.

You are encouraged to contact Advisory Council Membersif you have something you would like to contribute about the School.

Parents and Friends Association

Parents and Friends are a very important part of our school community. They provide an opportunity for parents to take an active part in school activities. These activities are predominantly social and fundraising, but there are also opportunities for information, making suggestions and contributing to the maintenance of the school.

The money raised by Parents & Friends enables the school to purchase equipment that makes our school a better place for learning and play.

Parents & Friends meetings take place on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7.30 pm in the St Mary of the Cross Community Centre.

Office bearers for this year are:

Chairperson:        Tammy Tait
Secretary:            Trudy Symes
Treasurer:            Lana Durie

Please give some thought to playing an active part in Parents & Friends.
